Villa Negri, of 16th century origin, is immersed in a large secular park, it is kept old-fashioned, respecting the historicity of the place. This rich oasis boasts more than two hundred species of trees and shrubs, which offer a perfect natural habitat for common wild animals of the territory mantuan and protected birds as cuckoo, woodpecker and hoopoe. The plain garden, divided into squares, is divided into four natural symmetrical rooms: the entrance, the dovecote, the ancient vegetable garden (and secret garden) and the old aviary.
The sections of the garden, recall the architectural intervention of man, order and symmetry, so in vogue in 500 where the simplicity of the gardens privileged architecture, mythology and links with the classical world. The main axis is the avenue of espalier-pruned lime trees, surrounded by four parterres delimited by spherical bus, leads to the manor house. This long avenue is flanked on one side by numerous varieties of climbing roses, which run along the vaults of the ancient stable. On the other hand, among the various species of trees and shrubs, we can observe centenary specimens of aceri negundo, cercis, cedri deodora and fragrant osmanthus olea fragrans.
You enter the dovecote area by walking along a path of splendid hemerocallis, flanked on the sides by two large specimens of calocedro, bordered by boxwood hedges. Here it is impossible not to notice a large Italian garden bounded by a very long hedge of ligustrum, composed of pairs of specimens of magnolia, lagestremia, ginkgo, hornbeam, clerodendro, beech atroporpurea and osmanthus aurantiacus. It’s the ideal place for an outdoor wedding.
The Ancient Brolo is an area of almost one hectare completely surrounded by walls. Here stand out two majestic specimens of mulberry, among more than thirty ancient species of trees and fruit shrubs. You can also observe a large flowerbed of aromatic and medicinal plants. Also close to the villa, a secret garden leads to the old warehouses. The garden is divided into four grassy beds with a geometric shape surrounded by boxwood hedges.
A long tunnel of fragrant jasmine leads to a rich botanical garden, characterized by the presence of numerous flowerbeds bordered by convallaria and shrub. This area, dominated by the presence of an ancient wrought iron aviary, allows us to follow an incredible path among more than forty species of shrubs especially evergreen and flowering. Two majestic centenary specimens of sophora regent surmount two flower beds of hydrangeas, a beautiful pink confetto and four flowerbeds of annual blooms.
